Fire Displaces Family in North Haven

A North Haven family will be displaced for months after a fire caused extensive damage to their home on Green Hill Road early Monday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief David Marcarelli said flames broke out inside the house around 3 a.m. and crews put the fire out in around 50 minutes.

A mother; her three children, who are in their teens and early 20s; and their dog live in the house and everyone who was home got out safely.

Marcarelli said a son sleeping on the first floor saw the fire and alerted the rest of the family to get out of the house.

The family will be displaced for several months.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials believe it started on the deck and spread quickly.

"Once they got out of the house they said they heard a pop, which we are assuming were the windows on the deck breaking, which allowed the fire to get into the house," Marcarelli said.
