Family, Friends Gather to Remember Meriden Mom Killed in Hit-and-Run

Meriden police said they have leads in a case that has stunned that community after a driver hit and killed a mother and injured her 7-year-old daughter, then just kept going a week ago.

On Friday, a vigil was held for 40-year-old Dania Cedeno-Delrosario, who died while saving her little girl’s life.

“She was an excellent woman,” Wanda Carrero, a friend of the victim, said.

Cedeno-Delrosario’s coworkers wore shirts printed with the message, “We will always remember you.”

“She was a great person,” says Darangellis Batista, a coworker.

Dania Cedeno-Delrosario was struck after parking her car and trying to cross Springdale Avenue with her daughter. As a car roared toward them, Cedeno-Delrosario pushed her daughter out of the way.

“The fact that she saved her daughter tells me everything I need to know about the type of person Dania must have been,” State Sen. Dante Bartolomeo, the assistant majority leader, said.

Detectives think the car involved is a dark-colored Nissan and they are working to enhance surveillance photos, which they say captured the car.

“We want the public to come forward. We want closure for this family,” Sgt. John Mennone, of the Meriden Police Department, said.

Officers have received several leads, but there has been no breakthrough yet.

Family and friends pleading for justice and for this to serve as a lesson for all drivers.

“Be more careful because it’s a lot of pain that they leave behind when these things happen,” Carrero said.

The car police are looking for could have damage, including to the front end and a side mirror.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
