Questions Surround Deadly Accidental Shooting at Moving Company

The district attorney's office said the unattended death at New World Van Lines in Auburn is under investigation

A man was killed whan a gun accidentally went off at the Auburn, Massachusetts, offices of a moving company Monday, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to the New World Van Lines of Massachusetts Service Center on St. Mark Street at about 11:30 a.m. for a report of a person shot, according to the Auburn Fire Department.

The person was accidentally shot, but there was no threat to the public, fire officials said.

The moving company confirmed that a person was injured in a shooting at its service center in Auburn, but didn't release the victim's name.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured individual and his family," a company spokesman said in a statement.

The Worcester County District Attorney's Office indicated that the shooting was fatal, saying Monday afternoon that it is investigating an "unattended death," officials said.

Police had told The Telegram that a man suffered a life-threatening injury to his chest.
