A 19-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday that resulted in the partial closure of the Maine Turnpike in Wells.
State police say the crash occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. in the northbound lane after a car struck the median guardrail and slammed into a group of trees.
The passenger of the vehicle, Uriel Vasquez of Brocton, Massachusetts, was killed and the driver, 54-year-old Gabino Ortiz of Brockton, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for non-life threatening injuries.
The victims, who were working as drywall workers, were driving to Saco for a job
One of the three northbound lanes in the area was shut down.
A photo of the scene showed the vehicle impaled by a tree through the passenger side.
Speed is believed to be a factor, according to an initial investigation. Ortiz was cited for driving without a license.
