Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of one person at a Taunton, Massachusetts home late Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to the 3-family home on Washington Street around 11 p.m., where heavy flames and smoke were showing from the top floor.
Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire, but during their efforts the body of an adult was discovered inside the home.
The victim's identity has not yet been released.
Eight other residents were able to safely escape from the home, and no other injuries were reported.
Investigators believe the fire may have started on the third floor, but have not yet determined a cause.
The incident is under investigation by the Taunton fire and police departments and state police assigned to both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
