1 Dead in Head-On Crash in Bedford

One person has died following a crash on the Middlesex Turnpike on Saturday morning, Bedford police and the Middlesex District Attorney's office reported.

Just before 9:00 a.m., the Bedford police and fire departments were dispatched to a reported crash on the Turnpike near its intersection with Oak Park Drive. First responders administered aid to one of the drivers injured in the crash, whom was later pronounced dead.

The victim was an 85-year-old Billerica man. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.

The female driver of the second car suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

According to the initial investigation, the crash occured when the Billerica man's car, traveling south on Middlesex Turnpike, crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car.

The crash is still under investigation by the Bedford Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Middlesex District Attorney's office.
