Federal Judge Dismisses Complaint From Pot-Using Rhode Island Chuch

A federal judge has dismissed a complaint filed by members of a church who say the government interfered with their marijuana-related religious activity.

The Healing Church applied for a permit to hold a prayer service in May at the Roger Williams National Memorial in Providence.

Site Manager Jennifer Smith told them the permit does not allow members to undertake any illegal activities.

Two members began to pray by using marijuana at the park's dry well. Both were fined $100.

The Providence Journal reports a federal judge on Monday granted Smith's motion to dismiss a complaint, saying the plaintiffs could have practiced their religion elsewhere.

Members of the church say they will either appeal or refile the case, arguing that the park's well is mentioned in the Bible.
