Fire Breaks Out at Vacant Home

The fire broke out at the empty house at 3:45 Tuesday morning

West Haven, Connecticut, firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant building on Gilbert Street early Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out at the empty house at 3:45 a.m.

Firefighters said that the blaze was tough to fight because the building was under extensive renovation and was just a shell of a structure without walls where the fire started, so the flames spread quickly.

Neighbors in houses on either side of the building were evacuated as a precaution. They have since been allowed back in their homes.

No injuries were reported.

Fire crews will be on scene throughout the morning battling hot spots and investigating the cause of the fire.
