Fire Crew Help Deliver Twin Girls

The second baby was delivered in the ambulance

The New Bedford fire department announced that three crew members helped deliver twin girls this morning.

At approximately 6:30 am, Lt. Ken Silva, Firefighters Rich McCue, Mark Pacheco and Kevin Carvalho walked into the home just as the first baby was arriving. The members helped clamp the cord and suctioned her until a medico arrived to then re-clamp and cut the cord.

As the mother and the first baby were being transported to the hospital, the second baby arrived and was delivered in the ambulance.

It is unknown if the mother needed to call for help because of the weather. Details to follow.
