Fire Department Rescues Dog

A poor dog was trapped inside a culvert on Rt. 93 Saturday, but the Salem Fire Department came to the pooch's rescue!

Around 3 p.m. the department received a call that led to the rescue of a missing dog who was found on a pond bank. The dog was returned to the owners who informed officials that another dog was missing, the 11-month-old puppy of the first dog.

Officials went back to the pond with the owners and upon calling the dog's name, they heard an echo from the culvert. They scaled a fence to get to the culvert and found the dog 50 feet inside.

The road was blocked off and a rescue team was called in to who retrieve the dog.

It's still unclear how the dog got into the culvert.
