Fire Officials: 1 Dead in Rhode Island House Fire

The victim has not been identified

Fire officials say a man has died in in a house fire on Prudence Island in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Firefighters were alerted Thursday night and found the house heavily involved in the blaze.

Firefighters found an unidentified victim in the house.

Michael O'Brien, Portsmouth's deputy fire chief, said one Prudence Island firefighter had a medical emergency and was hospitalized.

Complicating the work of firefighters was a lack of hydrants on the island. O'Brien said water was shuttled in from a tank on the island not far from the fire.
