A Vermont volunteer firefighter who responded to a crash involving serious injuries has been charged with drunken driving.
Authorities say 66-year-old James Hart of Bethel responded to a crash Tuesday in which a New Hampshire driver crossed the center line on Camp Brook Road and struck a motorcyclist and his passenger.
They say 22-year-old Gustavo Chang of Manchester, New Hampshire, struck a motorcycle driver by 74-year-old Dale O'Keefe of Madison, Wisconsin. Keefe's left foot was severed in the crash. His passenger's leg was severed leg.
The Burlington Free Press reports that a roadside test showed Hart had a blood alcohol content of 0.10. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and is due back in court next month.
A phone listed in Hart's name has been disconnected.
