Firefighters responded to a gas leak in the basement of a building on South Broadway Street near Shattuck Street.
The street was shut down as firefighters and gas workers opened manholes, tested gas levels and tried to gain access to businesses on the city's south side.
The situation appeared to be contained by 11:15 a.m.
