Fisherman Dies After Being Swept Off Rocks in Middletown, RI

Rescuers performed CPR on the beach before the man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead

A fisherman has died after being swept off the rocks into the waters off Rhode Island.

Rescue crews responded to Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday after a witness called 911 to report a man was swept off the rocks while fishing.

Middletown fire personnel on a rescue Jet Ski reached the victim about 50 yards off shore.

Rescuers performed CPR on the beach before the man was taken to Newport Hospital and pronounced dead.

His name was not released. The death remains under investigation.
