Fisherman Finds Body Along Shoreline of Crane Beach in Ipswich

Massachusetts authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered by a fisherman along the Crane Beach shoreline in Ipswich on Monday morning.

Police said they were notified at about 7:30 a.m. by a fisherman who found the body in the surf.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Sean Maney of Rowley.

Police said Maney was determined to have been alone in his boat Sunday night when he was last heard from.

Authorities said the dinghy from Maney's boat was located by a United States Coast Guard helicopter stuck in the mud on nearby marshland.

A preliminary investigation into Maney's death indicates an accidental drowning.

Ipswich Police, the Essex County District Attorney's Office, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are jointly investigating. Authorities said high winds did create rough and choppy waters in the area Sunday and Monday.
