Temperatures today soared to 90 degrees for quite a few locations in New England, including Burlington, Vermont, which reached its third day of 90 degree-plus heat, making it officially a heat wave -- in late September!
After another day of near record-breaking heat for areas farther inland, we’re in for another muggy night along with patchy dense fog developing overnight. Overnight lows only slip into the 60s. We'll again burn through that morning fog for a summery Wednesday.
Highs will pop into the 70s and 80s with continued humidity. A cold front will approach late day and may spark a shower or thunderstorm late day or at night. That front will still be close on Thursday morning, continuing the risk of a few showers as it taps a bit of moisture from Maria down to the south.
Speaking of Maria -- the main impacts will be higher surf and rip currents from the Maine coastline to the Cape and the Islands and the southern coastline of New England. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for the coastline through Wednesday evening.
Sun returns during the day as the front departs and temperatures start dropping. A major temperature change arrives Friday when highs only reach the 50s and 60s. A weak clipper system drops through Friday night into early Saturday, bringing a few clouds and even a few showers into early Saturday morning.
After that the weekend will turn brighter, but it stays cool with highs only in the 60s. That cool, fall-like trend continues into next week.
