Former Coach Charged With Owning Child Pornography

David Vecchiarino was arraigned Saturday on five counts of possession of child pornography

Pawtucket police say a former high school wrestling and football coach has been charged with possessing child pornography.

The Providence Journal reports that 32-year-old David Vecchiarino was fired Tuesday. He was the head coach of the wrestling team and assistant coach of the football team at Tolman High School.

Police say the investigation began when someone contacted police to say she had received texts of a sexual nature from a random telephone number. They say they were able to match the phone number to one owned by Vecchiarino.

Police say a search of the phone turned up several videos and photos featuring what appeared to be males under the age of 18 performing sexual acts.

Vecchiarino was arraigned Saturday on five counts of possession of child pornography. He was released after posting bail.
