Former Gov. Merrill Steps Down From Center

A former state governor has stepped down from an advisory board to a center affiliated with the University of New Hampshire Law School, after former state Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick Jr. said he was resigning as the center's leader.

UNH said former Gov. Steve Merrill resigned Wednesday, following the resignation of Portsmouth lawyer Stephen Tober. Both were part of the 60-member board of advisers to the Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy.

In his resignation letter March 17, Broderick said UNH hasn't meaningfully supported his work at the center, which aims to promote leadership skills and instill a commitment to justice.

UNH is developing a leadership transition plan.

Merrill and Broderick started a law firm. As governor, Merrill appointed Broderick to the state Supreme Court.
