A federal jury has awarded more than $2.6 million to a former Boston transit worker who said she was a victim of racial discrimination when she was fired in 2013.
Michelle Dimanche had worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority for 13 years when she was terminated. She said in her suit she was subjected to years of "demeaning and insulting remarks" from white supervisors who punished white workers less severely.
The "T" said Dimanche was fired after a series of disciplinary actions. Agency officials say the incident that led to her termination was the culmination of a yearslong feud between her and another Haitian-American woman over a man.
An MBTA spokesman said in a statement to The Boston Globe that it disagrees with the verdict and will appeal.
