Former Mass. Sportscaster Sues Golf Club for Discrimination

Bob Lobel filed the discrimination suit against the Woodland Golf Club in Newton in Boston federal court

A former Massachusetts sportscaster has filed suit against a Boston-area country club after he was denied the use of a specialized golf cart for the disabled.

The Boston Globe reports Bob Lobel filed the discrimination suit against the Woodland Golf Club in Newton in Boston federal court.

Lobel alleges the club violated the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act and the state's Equal Rights Act by not allowing him to use the cart.

The longtime WBZ-TV personality claims he was a "single-digit handicap" before his undisclosed disability.

Woodland General Manager David Garfinkel says the club permits the use of adaptive carts everywhere on its course except the putting greens.

Lobel is seeking a change in Woodland's policy and $250,000 in compensatory damages.
