The four children were standing with their bikes when they were struck by an unidentified suspect

Four children were injured in a hit-and-run crash Sunday evening in Stoneham, Massachusetts, police say.

Stoneham police say they received multiple 911 calls around 6:38 p.m. about a hit-and-crash that involved several children who were struck by a dark-colored vehicle near the intersection of Elm Street and MacArthur Road.

A preliminary investigation reveals a dark-colored Subaru Legacy was traveling westbound on Elm Street when it struck the children while they were standing with their bikes in front of a house on the corner of MacArthur Road.

Officials say the suspect's vehicle then hit a parked car in a driveway before backing out of the driveway and fleeing the scene. One of the children's bicycles was lodged underneath the Subaru as it drove off, witnesses told police.

Two children were treated on scene and two were taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police say all four children are between the ages of 12 and 13.

The intersection was closed while police were on scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information on the suspect vehicle or its driver is encouraged to call the Stoneham Police Department at 781-438-1215.
