Funeral Arrangements Finalized for Massachusetts State Police Trooper Thomas Clardy

Funeral services will take place next week for Massachusetts State Police Trooper Thomas Clardy.

Trooper Clardy died on March 16 after his cruiser was hit by another vehicle on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Clardy had stopped a car for a traffic violation in Charlton when his cruiser was hit by a vehicle that investigators say had swerved across all three travel lanes without slowing down. That driver, David Njuguna of Webster, remains hospitalized.

Friday, people gathered in Clardy's hometown of Hudson to show their support to his family. Flags with ribbons lined the streets.

"People bought ribbon, people bought flags, some others gathered and put them together, some of us went out there to put them out," said Stacey Hartford. "It was a joint effort by a bunch of peole."

While Hartford didn't know Clardy personally, as a mother of five children, she feels for his widow, who will now have to raise six kids on her own.

Njuguna, 30, faces a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lane violation. He will be summonsed to court to face criminal charges once he is released from the hospital. The RMV has revoked his license.

No information has been released in regards to the driver of the car that Clardy had stopped.

A wake will be held on March 21 from 2-7 p.m. at Saint Michael's Church in Hudson.

The services will begin at 11 a.m. on March 22 at Saint Michael's Church in Hudson, followed by the burial at Saint Michael's Cemetery.

No parking will be available at the church for the wake or the funeral, according to police.

Clardy was a 44-year-old Marine Corps veteran, a husband, and a father of six. Click here to read his obituary.
