The garage at Alewife Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will be shut down through the weekend, the MBTA announced Friday.
The MBTA says they need to make repairs after they found more places where concrete was falling apart. On Wednesday, pieces of concrete fell on a customer's vehicle on the garage's second floor.
No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted engineers to inspect the garage. Five hundred spots were closed Thursday as crews made repairs.
The MBTA said the decision to close the garage, which has 2,500 spaces, this weekend was made out of an abundance of caution as repairs continue and a comprehensive engineering assessment is made.
The transit agency also announced that a $5.7 million contract was awarded Thursday to begin long-term repair work in September.
"It looks like it's overdue," Dan Brunelle, of Acton, said. "You look around and it definitely needs some work. There are cracks all over the place."
"This is just another one of those things where they just have to put some attention to it now," another man said.

With the garage now closed, MBTA is asking customers to use their other parking facilities.
