Rubber Avenue Reopens After Gas Leak in Naugatuck

Rubber Avenue in Naugatuck has reopened after a construction crew struck a gas main, causing a leak.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of the Friendly's restaurant, according to Naugatuck police.

Rubber Avenue was closed for several hours up to Arch Street.

The road will be closed between Meadow/Cherry streets and Arch Street on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. so crews can install a water line. Motorists will be able to access Farmers Market Plaza and Friendly's Restaurant. Traffic will be redirected both ways to Scott Street so drivers can get around the construction.

Police advise drivers to seek an alternate route.
