A former Glastonbury, Connecticut, school principal who was critically injured when a pair of Palestinian men boarded a bus in Jerusalem and began shooting and stabbing passengers earlier this month has died, a hospital spokesman told NBC News.
Richard Lakin was badly injured on Oct. 13 and went through several surgeries. A post on his public Facebook page says attackers "shot him in the head and stabbed him multiple times." Lakin died from his wounds on Tuesday, NBC News reports.
"Dad was unconscious and anesthetized during the entire two weeks, so he felt no pain. This morning, with his family around him he faded gently into a permanent sleep and we kissed him goodbye," the Facebook post says.
The Hartford Courant reports that Larkin served as principal of Hopewell Elementary School in Glastonbury from 1969 until 1984.
Lankin was one of more than a dozen people hurt when violence erupted in Jerusalem on Oct. 13.
According to Lakin's Facebook page, the 76-year-old was a granddfather of eight. His funeral was set for Wednesday in Israel, according to Facebook.
