Looking at 3-year-old William Bren's smile, you would never guess he is battling kidney cancer. He was diagnosed with a stage 4 Wilms tumor earlier this year.
"They tell you, 'The goal is to cure your son.' It kind of gets you in a sobering moment right there," his father, Craig Bren, told NBC10 Boston. "Unfortunately, that's not the case for everybody, and we're extremely blessed and lucky that that's the case for him."
But, like every fight against cancer, medical bills are quickly mounting for the Bren family. That's where Gloucester Police come in.
Tuesday afternoon, officers escorted William to police headquarters to give him and his family a $5,000 donation from "Cops for Kids with Cancer."
"It's great that we had someone here locally that we can do this back for them," expressed Gloucester Police Detective Thomas Quinn.
Quinn lost his own son to cancer. He spearheaded the application process on behalf of the Bren family and police department.
"After the passing of my son, this has been my give-back," he said.

The Bren family said they couldn't be more grateful.
"It really just kind of takes you back, you know. From the police department to close friends of ours. It's really allowed us to put our focus on Will," Bren said. "You can't put a price tag, and you can't really put that into words, how much that means."
