Grand Jury Probing Mysterious Death of Haverhill Girl

Documents related to a search warrant have been sealed and a grand jury investigation is planned into the death of 11-year-old Precious Wallaces

The death of a Massachusetts girl who died mysteriously at a rooming house in Lawrence in mid-December is now in the hands of a grand jury.

According to The Eagle-Tribune, documents related to a search warrant have been sealed and a grand jury investigation is planned into the death of 11-year-old Precious Wallaces.

First responders were called to a rooming house on Jackson Street on Dec. 15, where they found Wallaces, according to the Essex District Attorney.

She was rushed to Lawrence Hospital and later flown by helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where she died Dec. 18 after several days on life support.

Wallaces had been visiting a family member, according to authorities, and was apparently a frequent visitor to the two-floor apartment where she was found. Building residents told NBC10 Boston they believe the relative is her uncle.

Court documents obtained by The Eagle-Tribune show a warrant to search the building on Jackson Street was obtained on Dec. 17. The warrant and other related documents have all been impounded by Lawrence District Court Judge Holly Broadbent.

The paper reported that Assistant District Attorney Kate MacDougall asked for the search warrant and documents to be impounded until March 28 so the information would not "prejudice an ongoing Grand Jury investigation".

Authorities have not said what led to Wallaces to being hospitalized, but are looking at possible exposure to fentanyl or another toxic substance.
