Police: Man Tries Robbing Maine Coffee Shop Through Drive-Up Window

Police in Maine are investigating yet another armed robbery in the greater Portland area.

South Portland police said on their Facebook page a man on foot approached the drive-up window at the Aroma Joe’s Coffee on Western Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The incident, caught on surveillance, showed the man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and the bottom half of his face covered.

The drive-up window was shut and locked so the suspect showed a black handgun to the female clerk inside the store and demanded money.

The clerk told WCSH-TV she did not open the window but instead hid in a bathroom and called 911.

"Luckily, no one was hurt in this incident, and the clerk’s quick thinking allowed police to arrive very quickly. At the very least, they were able to stop any further violence from occurring," read a statement on the South Portland Police Facebook page.

The suspect had already fled the scene on foot by the time police arrived.

He is described as 5-foot, 7-inches with an average build.

Police have not said whether the suspect may be connected to a string of robberies in the greater Portland area within the last week. Those incidents appear to be linked.

The clerk told WCSH-TV she believes the man who tried to rob the coffee shop is the same suspect.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identification or any of the other robberies is urged to contact South Portland Police at 207-799-5511, ext. 7435.
