A Guatemalan man wanted for his role in a massacre of indigenous Guatemalans in the 1980s has pleaded guilty to illegal reentry into the U.S.

Federal prosecutors say Francisco Cuxum Alvarado pleaded guilty to the charge Monday in Boston federal court.

They say the 64-year-old was found in Waltham in April after he previously entered the country illegally in 2004 and was ordered to leave.

Prosecutors say Cuxum Alvarado was a member of a civil militia that helped government forces remove Maya Achi people in the early 1980s. They say the Guatemalan government has charged him with crimes against humanity for participating in the mass sexual assault of Maya Achi women.

Cuxum Alvarado will be sentenced Dec. 20. He'll be extradited to Guatemala after completing any sentence imposed in December.
