Downpours, High Winds, Thunderstorms Moving Across Region

What to Know

  • Friday: Occasional downpours, windy. Highs in the 60s.
  • Friday Night: Heavy rain, a storm. Gusty winds. Temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
  • Saturday: Rain to start, late clearing. Still windy. Highs in the 60s.

We have a front stalled over New England stretching all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Waves of low-pressure moving along the front bring periods of rain and thunderstorms Friday, Friday night and Saturday. Also along the front, when it's not raining hard, we have dense fog and drizzle.

Rain and storms may ease a bit Friday afternoon with temperatures jumping to the 50s north and 60s south. Wind from the south may gust past 25 mph.

In any thunderstorms, we can have damaging wind gusts at any time.

The front should gradually ease offshore Saturday with rain ending from west to east. But in eastern Massachusetts and Maine, much of the day will be wet with a chance of thunderstorms and gusty wind.

It’ll be a cold drying wind at night from the northwest gusting past 40 mph, pushing the temperature down to the 30s south, and upper 20s north.

High wind watches are in effect Friday for several areas across New England.
