Hand Grenade Found in Vermont Picnic Area

Police in Vermont had to be called in Monday after a person found a hand grenade near a picnic area in Waterford.

The Department of Public Safety says that a person walking in the area found the grenade on the shoreline of the Moore Reservoir. The grenade had been underwater, but was exposed after water levels in the reservoir had dropped.

The State Police Bomb Squad and members of the Vermont Air National Guard were called in to assisit with the situation.

After an investigation it was determined that the grenade was not in safe condition and was ordered to be destroyed. During the destruction a single explosion may have been heard in the area; however, no one was hurt.

There were no other hazards found in the site. The picnic area has been re-opened.
