Bacteria levels were about twice the recommended limit, which caused health officials to issue the advisory.

A health advisory has been issued for Massachusetts' Charles River after an algae bloom was found to have had taken hold in the Lower Charles River Basin, according to the Boston Globe.

They report that the bacteria levels were about twice the recommended limit during tests, which caused health officials to issue the advisory.

The bacteria, known as cyanobacteria, turns water murky and is considered common during the summer.
