1 Dead Following Police-Involved Shooting in Westborough, Massachusetts

One person is dead following a police-involved shooting at an apartment complex in Westborough, Massachusetts, on Friday afternoon.

Police received a call for a domestic incident at about noon at Windsor Ridge apartments, and said when they arrived the incident was still in progress.

"Several Westborough police officers got out of their vehicles. Witnessed the domestic violence incident that was on going," Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said.

The person who was shot has died, police said. That person's name has not been released.

The victim of the domestic violence incident was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Part of the development on Windsor Ridge was taped off and one home had its back door smashed in.

"This was not a random isolated incident. People are safe," Westborough Police Chief Jeffrey Lourdes said.

Neighbors said they received limited information about the incident.

"The only thing I know is that there was a fight between a couple and then a police officer unfortunately had to come in and take care of whatever," neighbor Sarah Coon said.

Another resident who was outside during the police response said she couldn't get back to her home.

"When I threw the garbage out, I could see something going on. And then I could overhear one of the other residents talking to someone saying someone heard two gunshots, so I was like, 'oh dear god," neighbor Jan Hardy recalled.

The officer involved in the shooting was also taken to the hospital as protocol.

No further information was immeditately available.
