High Court Denies Appeal of Convicted RI Child Abuser

The Rhode Island Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a Providence woman convicted of abusing and severely injuring her 6-week-old baby.

Danielle Lefebvre was convicted in 2015 of first-degree child abuse charges and is serving 18 years in prison.

She appealed the conviction, saying a social worker testified to statements that should have been considered privileged.

The high court on Monday upheld the conviction.

Prosecutors say Lefebvre shook her little boy, and then threw him because he would not stop crying. Authorities say the abuse caused bleeding on the brain, as well as skull and rib fractures.

Lefebvre says she found the boy crying on the bedroom floor when she woke up.
