High School Track Coach Charged With Sexually Assaulting 17-Year-Old Student

A Maine high school track and field coach is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old Westbrook High School student.

Timothy Even, 27, was charged with three counts of gross sexual assault after being arrested Monday.

"It's very upsetting information for us," said Westbrook Superintendent Dr. Peter Lancia, who explained Even coached cross country and track and field at the high school, and worked as an ed tech for three years.

Police say a "concerned citizen" contacted them about Even's relationship with a student. After questioning Even, Westbrook Police Captain Sean Lally said they believe the two had a consensual relationship for several months.

"Our detectives are following up with the school department, to make sure there aren't any other victims," said Captain Lally.

Several of Even's former students on the track team expressed disbelief Monday.

"He's a great role model and he was a great figure that I looked up to," said Zack Hutchins, who was on the track team for one year. "He has so greatly impacted my life in such a positive way."

As of Monday afternoon, Even had not yet made bail. He is expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
