High Surf Advisory in Effect for South Coast of Massachusetts

A High Surf Advisory is in effect today for the South Coast of Massachusetts in the areas of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

If anyone is planning on being at the beach or in the water, big waves and dangerous rip currents are likely in spots along the coast. According to the National Weather Service, those currents can pull swimmers out to sea.

If you find yourself in a rip current, instead of fighting it and trying to swim directly back to shore, it's best to swim parallel to the coast to escape it and then swim in.

With Jose heading up the coast and likely to be a tropical storm when it passes by, beach erosion will be another issue due to the large waves.

This is a point that has people thinking ahead like Scituate resident, Eric Mccroskey.

"We're really interested in storm surge and the rain levels we might get," he said.

The waves will keep building into the mid-week as the storm makes its closest pass on Wednesday.
