Hiker Seriously Injured in Fall Near Vt. Trail

Matthew Dibley and Rachel Pentecost planned on going on a short hike to access an overlook Thursday

A hiker who fell off a cliff near the West Vista Trail in Lincoln, Vermont, fell unconscious and another hiker had to walk through the dark to find help, according to state police. 

Matthew Dibley and Rachel Pentecost planned on going on a short hike to access an overlook Thursday around 7 p.m. 

At some point during the hike they realized they left the trail and tried to walk back to road. 

Dibley lost his foot and fell about 20-30 fee, knocking him unconscious. 

Pentecost, who had no light source, managed to get out of the road and call 911 at a nearby home. 

Rescue crews located Dibley and carried him out of the woods. 

Dibley and Pentecost were taken to UVM Medical Center. Dibley was admitted with serious injuries.
