Home Detention Denied for Suspect in Fatal Crash

Karri Benoir has been held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility since November

A request for home detention by a 24-year-old Barre, Vermont, woman accused of intentionally causing an accident that killed an EMT in a failed attempt to take her own life has been denied.

The Burlington Free Press reports
Karri Benoir has been held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility since November after prosecutors say she violated the conditions of her release by living without her mother.

Benoir's mother moved out of their home after Benoir allegedly assaulted her.

Prosecutors argued that releasing Benoir to home detention would pose too much of a risk to the public. Judge James Crucitti denied the request this week.

Benoir has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and grossly negligent driving with death resulting charges stemming from the July crash that killed 30-year-old Brendon Cousino.
