House Burns in Fire While Family Away

Two horses and some cats that lived in the barn died in the blaze

A home, a barn and a couple of vehicles have been destroyed by fire in Otisfield, Maine, but nobody was home at the time.

A neighbor says two horses and some cats that lived in the barn died in the blaze reported at about 5 p.m. Sunday, but the family that lives in the home was away visiting an ailing relative in Bangor.

Neighbor Jeff Jacobs tells the Sun Journal that the family is devastated over the loss of the animals.

The cause remains under investigation.

The Rev. Genise Stern of the East Otisfield Baptist Church says the family is receiving support from the community and the church.

Crews from Norway, Harrison, Casco, Poland, Minot, Oxford and West Paris assisted.
