One person was hospitalized after an intense fire broke out at a 6-unit apartment building in Worcester, Massachusetts Tuesday night.
Several people were in their Oberlin Street residences at the time, including the man who had to be rescued from the second floor.
“I heard all these windows going pop, pop, pop," said resident Tongia Jones. "I told me and my fiance to get out of here.”
All of the residents got out of the building on their own except the man who was on the second floor.
Firefighters and paramedics pulled him out as debris was falling from the home. He was conscious but had serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
In another part of the building, two dogs were together on the third floor but their owner wasn’t home.
"As I was running up the street I was telling the officers my two dogs were there," said Porfirio Cuba.

Firefighters were able to save both dogs. One was treated on a stretcher and then taken to the vet.
The other, named Nana, was shaken up, but she’s alive, too, after she was found hiding under the ottoman.
The fire displaced several residents, who were being assisted on scene by the Red Cross.
“I’m just glad I got out, that’s all that counts out. I got myself out, my fiancé, and I got my dog out," Tongia Jones said. "It could have been worse. It could have been at night.”
Firefighters say it looks like the fire started on the second floor, but they have not yet determined the cause.
The fire remains under investigation.
