Here's How to Help the Fallen Worcester Firefighter's Family

Jason Menard's "loss is devastating to his family and his brother and sister firefighters," a Worcester city spokesman said

The death of Worcester fire Lt. Jason Menard has devastated his family and community.

For those who would like to help them, a memorial fund has been established that is accepting donations on the Menard family's behalf, the city said Thursday.

Anyone interested in donating can either visit PFFMFoundation.org. or mail their donation to Worcester Fire Department Credit Union at 34 Glennie St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Make checks payable to PFFM Foundation c/o The Menard Children's Fund.

The fund is part of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts Foundation, which is a registered nonprofit, Worcester spokesman Michael Vigneux said in a statement.

"Jason Menard leaves behind a wife and three children. A proud father and dedicated husband, Jason loved nothing more than his family, together laughing, joking, and enjoying their company. His loss is devastating to his family and his brother and sister firefighters," Vigneux said.

Menard was passionate about and dedicated to his job, Vigneux said. He died Wednesday fighting a fire burning at a home on Stockholm Street in the bitter cold.

He and his crew had entered the house to try and find a baby that was reported trapped, but the crew became trapped themselves.

"Putting his crew before himself, Menard led his crew to safety, one crew member out a window, saving his life. Jason Menard never freed himself from the third floor and succumbed to the injuries he sustained in this heroic fire fight," Vigneux said.
