How to Help Those Impacted by Massachusetts Gas Explosions

Nonprofits and regular citizens are stepping up to help residents of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover affected by the disaster

  • Many nonprofits and invididuals are doing what they can to help those impacted by Thursday's explosions and fires in Massachusetts.
  • Some are trying to raise money, while others are collecting donations of needed supplies.
  • One person was killed and 25 others injured in a series of gas-fueled explosions and fires in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover.

Nonprofits and regular citizens are coming to the aid of residents of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover impacted by Thursday's gas explosions and fires.

Below are just several examples of how you can get involved:

The Red Cross of Massachusetts is asking for donations to assist those who affected by the tragedy. Donations can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or going to redcross.org/donate. Anyone wishing to volunteer can go to redcross.org/volunteer and sign up.

The Essex County Community Foundation is raising money for the Lawrence Emergency Fund. The money raised will be provided to appropriate agencies or churches that directly support the individuals and families impacted by the explosions. Click here to make a donation.

The MSPCA at Nevins Farm is seeking donations of microchip scanners, paper towels, dry cat food, canned cat food, canned dog food and cat litter. Donations can be dropped off at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen.

The Town of Andover is asking anyone interested in helping out to email AndoverCommunitySupport@andoverma.us so they can properly evaluate and disburse all donations.

Miss Massachusetts America Gabby Tavares, a Lawrence native, is collecting donations of food and other nonperishable items, including water, clothing, pillows, blankets, toiletries, toothpaste, diapers and more. They can be dropped off at the Arlington Middle School, the Lawrence Senior Center, Parthum Middle School or Central Catholic High School.

Johan Lopez is also collecting donations at Home Shop Properties Inc. at 300 Broadway in Methuen. He's also looking for volunteers to meet him there at 12:30 p.m. on Friday to help bring items donated by Walmart to the Lawrence Senior Center.

Team Zingales Realty at 232 Pleasant St., 2nd Floor, in Methuen is also collecting donations to bring to the Arlington Middle School. They are looking for the following items: diapers, sugar, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, snacks for kids and juice boxes.

The Salvation Army's disaster team was in the Merrimack Valley on Thursday assisting residents. To make a donation, click here.

King's Dining & Entertainment in Burlington and Lynnfield is opening its doors to its neighbors who have suffered a loss or been affected by the disaster by giving families a place to gather, including complimentary bowling and games, or just a place to meet up. They're also accepting donations of supplies to donate to local shelters. Donations can be dropped off at King's locations in the Seaport, Back Bay, Dedham, Lynnfield or Burlington.
