Missing Hunter Found Dead in Maine

Authorities announced Sunday that they had found a missing hunter from New Hampshire dead in Maine.

According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, missing hunter Todd Babula, 59, of Portsmouth, was located deceased at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

He was found by a team of several game wardens doing a hasty search checking wooded areas for known tree stands he would use.

The area is heavily wooded and located north of the ITS 84 snowmobile trail located between Route 27 and Atwood Hill Road, officials said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been notified.

Authorities say Babula had a camp in New Portland, Maine, and had been deer hunting in the woods nearby for many years.

On Friday afternoon, his uncle dropped him off to hunt near Babula's truck, which had gotten stuck on a snowmobile trail earlier in the day. He had made plans to have neighbors help him with the truck, but he hadn't been seen or heard from since then.

Maine Game Wardens searched for him Saturday and Sunday, using search dogs, aircraft and volunteers on the ground.
