Hydrant Issue Causes Inmates at Massachusetts Jail to Be Without Water

Prison officials had to move about 200 inmates to other facilities

Dozens of inmates at Norfolk County Jail in Dedham, Massachusetts, were without running water for part of the weekend.

Jail officials told necn that a hydrant was struck Friday night, causing the facility to be without running water for about 24 hours.

Because sediment built up in the facility's water system, water pressure was down and inmates were not able to shower or flush toilets.

Prison officials said they had to move about 200 inmates to other facilities in Massachusetts.

About 150 inmates stayed at the Norfolk jail while plumbers worked on the issue.
