Ice Falls From Roof, Breaks Gas Meter, Causes Leak

A New Hampshire fire captain calls the ice that slid off a Hudson roof "as big and heavy as a refrigerator."

A chunk of ice that a New Hampshire fire captain calls "as big and heavy as a refrigerator" has fallen off a roof, shearing off a natural gas meter, causing a gas leak and forcing evacuations.

Hudson Fire Capt. Dave Morin tells The Telegraph of Nashua that the ice slid off the roof of a condo complex Monday. He says it also destroyed a deck in its fall.

No injuries were reported, but two condo units were determined to be uninhabitable until gas piping could be fixed and service restored.

In a separate incident, ice smashed a gas meter on an apartment building in Nashua, starting a small fire.

Authorities are warning of more such incidents as the weather continues to warm up.
