Immigration advocates will descend upon the Massachusetts State House Wednesday to lobby for immigrants, refugees, and allies.

The theme of the 22nd annual Immigrants' Day is "Immigrants Get the Job Done."

Advocates plan to meet with lawmakers and push for funding for English classes and basic adult education. They also want to highlight the key role immigrant workers play in fields like healthcare and technology.

Among those expected to speak at this year's event are Workforce Development Secretary Rosalin Acosta, Senate President Harriette Chandler, and Boston City Councilor Andrea Campbell.

Another speaker expected to talk will be a DACA recipient.

Former President Barack Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to provide temporary protection and work permits to hundreds of thousands of immigrants who are living in the U.S. illegally after being brought here as children. President Donald Trump ended the program last year but gave Congress six months to pass legislation enshrining it.

The fate of the program has been in question due to Congress and Trump not being able to come to a deal on it.

According to the Immigrants Day website, organizers say they will also be registering voters.

Last year, more than 1,600 people attended Immigrants' Day. The event starts at 11 a.m.
