Inmate Arrested After Being Caught With Heroin

Charles Keefe was found with 47 pouches of heroin

Vermont State Police have arrested a correctional facility inmate after finding him in possession of heroin during a routine search on Friday.

Charles Keefe, 30, of the Marble Valley Correctional Facility in Rutland, has been charged with the possession of heroin and transporting a regulated drug into places of detention.

Correctional officers found Keefe with a clear plastic bag containing 47 small glassine pouches of heroine. The pouches were stamped with a picture of Santa Clause along with the words Merry Xmas.

It's not known how Keefe obtained the drugs.

Keefe, who had been separated from other inmates due to suspicious behavior, had already been in custody for uttering a forged instrument, burglary and unlawful trespass.

Keefe will appear in Rutland Superior Court on Feb. 2 to answer to the charges against him.
