Items Bought By Embezzling Ex-Principal to Be Sold

A Vermont school district has decided to sell the items bought by a former principal who improperly used school resources.

The Caledonian-Record reports the Newark School Board decided to sell items bought by former principal Patrick Ely on Craigslist during a meeting Tuesday. In April, Ely pleaded guilty to using school accounts to buy $5,000 worth of merchandise, including an air conditioner and a television.

The new principal of Newark Street School, Tim Mulligan, says there are about 15 items that can't be used by the school but could have some value in an auction.

Caledonia North Supervisory Union business manager Tisha Hankinson says she has estimates for the value of each individual item. Board member Kasey Talbot says the funds from the auction could benefit the playground.
