Jenny Phillips, Filmmaker Wife of Boston Globe's Frank Phillips, Drowns Off Nantucket

Jenny Phillips, a filmmaker and the wife of the Boston Globe's State House bureau chief, died in an apparent drowning Monday off the coast of Nantucket, the Globe reported Tuesday.

"She was full of energy," Frank Phillips, who has led the bureau since 1991, said, according to the Globe. "She was driven by her passions."

The 76-year-old Concord resident was no more than a quarter mile from the shore when she jumped from her sailboat to swim toward the island, her husband said. Her body was found on a beach in Wauwinet around 6:30 or 7 p.m.

Jenny Phillips was an experienced swimmer who went to the gym regularly, and such a swim was not out of the ordinary, her husband said.

The Globe notes that Phillips was an accomplished documentarian. While on vacation, her husband said, she continued to work on her latest project. As a therapist, Phillips continued to see patients part-time in Concord.
