Jury Selection Continues in Hernandez Double Murder Trial

The former New England Patriots tight end already is serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd

Jury selection is continuing in ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez's second murder trial.

The former New England Patriots tight end already is serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Hernandez is being tried in the slayings of two other men - both of them fatally shot in 2012 after they left a Boston nightclub.

Jury selection began Tuesday, and was expected to continue on Friday.

Prosecutors allege that Hernandez was the gunman and went after the pair after one of the men spilled a drink on him at the club.

The prosecution has more than 140 witnesses, according to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, but Hernandez's defense lawyers are not pleased, saying they have no idea who prosecutors could call on.

As a result, prosecutors expect pre-trial hearings every day before trial proceedings begin because "the defense is trying to stall," a district attorney's spokesperson said.

Regardless of progress in jury selection, jurors will not be sworn in until March 1, when opening statements are scheduled to start.
